The predecessor of Wuzhou University was Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch, founded in 1985. In October 2003, the former Wuzhou Education College and the former Wuzhou Normal School were merged into the Wuzhou Branch of Guangxi University. In February 2006, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Wuzhou University on the basis of Guangxi University Wuzhou Branch. Wuzhou University is a multidisciplinary public general undergraduate university that implements a management system of "co-construction between districts and cities, with the city as the mainstay". Wuzhou University is located in Wuzhou City, Guangxi, which is known as a thousand-year-old city, a century-old commercial port, and the world's capital of artificial gems. Wuzhou is also the birthplace of Guangxi's higher education. In 1928, Guangxi University established in Wuzhou.
